Financial Arrangements that will Register a Student
A student may be eligible to register without paying the Minimum Payment to Register Amount on the student’s SWS/ROSI invoice (also referred to as "tuition fee deferral") if the student has paid outstanding fees from the previous sessions and: · The student has been assessed as receiving a government loan amount that exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register amount on the student’s SWS/ROSI invoice: · OSAP loan · Other Canadian Government loan · U.S. Government loan
· The student has an approved Scholarship or Award amount that exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register amount on the student’s SWS/ROSI invoice: · Undergraduate Scholarship/Award · Undergraduate Financial Support from Departmental or Principal Investigator Research Funding · Graduate Student Major Award, Research Stipend or Teaching Assistantship · Graduate Financial Support from Departmental or Principal Investigator Research Funding
· A Third Party Sponsor will pay a portion of Tuition Fees that exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register amount on the student’s SWS/ROSI invoice. This is referred to as a “Third Party Sponsorship”. Note: The Minimum Payment to Register amount on the student’s SWS/ROSI invoice = Unpaid fees from past session(s) + 65% of current year tuition fees (program/course, ancillary and incidental fees).

Register without Payment on the basis of OSAP Loan
If you have unpaid fees from a previous session, you may NOT defer current session fees. You may register by your Minimum Payment to Register deadline without paying the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice, if you have been assessed by OSAP to receive a financial aid amount for the coming year that exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice. Registration without payment is also referred to as “tuition deferral”. The Minimum Payment to Register amount on the student’s SWS/ROSI invoice = Unpaid fees from past session(s) + 65% of current year tuition fees (program/course, ancillary and incidental fees). Prior to the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, you can apply for OSAP deferral by clicking on the OSAP/Govt Deferral button on the 'Financial Accounts' section on the Student Web Service/ROSI. You will know immediately if your tuition fee deferral application is successful or not and the application will be noted in your activity log. If your tuition fee deferral application is successful, SWS/ROSI will change your status from “INVIT”(invited to register) to “REG”(registered). You need to confirm that the status has changed to “REG” on SWS/ROSI and report any problems to your undergraduate registration office or graduate unit. After the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, apply for OSAP deferral at the following locations: · University of Toronto – Mississauga Students: UTM Registrar’s Office · University of Toronto – Scarborough Students: UTSC Registrar’s Office · All Other Students: · Admissions & Awards (172 St. George Street) to fill out request form and get authorizing signature · Registrar’s Office (undergraduate) or SGS Student Services (graduate) to get the approved form processed If you register without paying the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice) on the basis of an OSAP loan, pay your fees by the following due dates: 1. After you receive your loan funds, you must pay at least the minimum payment to register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice.
2. If you do not receive any assistance from OSAP you are still responsible for paying your fees, and must begin doing so as soon as you receive notification of refusal.
3. Residence payments cannot be deferred (delayed). Your residence occupancy agreement lists the payment due dates.
4. Full payment of summer session fees is due by June 15th. Otherwise monthly service charges at a rate of 1.5% compounded (19.56% per annum) will be applied against the outstanding student account balance beginning as of June 15th and as of the 15th of every month thereafter until the account is paid in full.
5. If you do not make full payment of summer session fees by August 31st, you will NOT be eligible to register for the fall/winter session. Note for U of T Scarborough students: Your deadline for the full payment of summer session fees is August 26th. (top)
Register without Payment on the basis of Other Canadian Government Loan
If you have unpaid fees from a previous session, you may NOT defer current session fees. You may register by the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, without paying the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice, if you have been assessed to receive a financial aid amount from a Canadian government loan program (other than OSAP) for the current year that exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice. Registration without payment is also referred to as “tuition fee deferral”. The Minimum Payment to Register amount on the student’s SWS/ROSI invoice = Unpaid fees from past session(s) + 65% of current year tuition fees (program/course, ancillary and incidental fees).
Before applying for your tuition fee deferral: 1. Bring or fax a copy of your provincial Notice of Assessment to Admissions & Awards at 172 St. George St, fax 416-978-7022 to confirm you have qualified for student aid. If you have questions contact Admissions & Awards at 416-978-2190.
2. Include a covering sheet indicating your name, student number and college/faculty.
3. After three working days, submit your tuition fee deferral request through the Student Web Service/ROSI. Prior to the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, you can apply for Other Government deferral by clicking on the OSAP/Govt Deferral button on the 'Financial Accounts' section on the Student Web Service/ROSI. You will know immediately if your tuition fee deferral application is successful or not and the application will be noted in your activity log. The Minimum Payment to Register amount on the student’s SWS/ROSI invoice = Unpaid fees from past session(s) + 65% of current year tuition fees (program/course, ancillary and incidental fees). Register without Payment on the basis of Sponsorship by a Third Party
If you have unpaid fees from a previous session, you may NOT defer current session fees. You may register by the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, without paying the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice prior to the if you have an arrangement in place for an external organization or agency to pay a tuition fee amount that exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice for the coming year. Registration without payment is also referred to as “tuition fee deferral”. The Minimum Payment to Register amount on the student’s SWS/ROSI invoice = Unpaid fees from past session(s) + 65% of current year tuition fees (program/course, ancillary and incidental fees). Prior to the Minimum Payment to Register deadline: 1. Mail, fax or bring a copy of the annual letter you received from the external organization or agency stating they will pay your fees along with your SWS/ROSI invoice to: · Student Accounts · your College Registrar (TST students)
2. Student Accounts or TST College Registrar staff must match your SWS/ROSI invoice with the authorization letter in order to defer your first tuition fee payment for the summer session and complete your registration. 3. Check SWS/ROSI to confirm that you are registered. If you register without paying the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice, on the basis of a Sponsorship, pay your fees by the following due dates: 1. Residence payments cannot be deferred (delayed). Your residence occupancy agreement lists the payment due dates. 2. You must pay the outstanding account balance by August 31st to be eligible to register in the next session, and by September 15th to avoid monthly service charges at a rate of 1.5% compounded (19.56% per annum) which will be applied against the outstanding account balance beginning as of September 15th and as of the 15th of every month thereafter until the account is paid in full. 3. External organizations will be SWS/ROSI invoiced in June and July. If the external organization does not make the scheduled payments by August 31st for the summer session, you are still responsible for paying the fees, and must begin doing so as soon as you receive notification of non-payment by the external organization. 4. If you do not make full payment for summer session fees by August 31st, you will NOT be eligible to register for the fall/winter session. Exception: Full payment is due by August 26th for U of T Scarborough students. NOTE: A deferral must be processed for every session in which you wish to register. The deferral does not carry over from one session to the next.

Register without Payment on the basis of Scholarship or Award
Undergraduate Scholarship/Award
If you have unpaid fees from a previous session, you may NOT defer current session fees. You may register by the Minimum Payment to Register deadline without paying the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice, if you have been awarded an Undergraduate scholarship or award for the current session that exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice. The Minimum Payment to Register amount on the student’s SWS/ROSI invoice = Unpaid fees from past session(s) + 65% of current year tuition fees (program/course, ancillary and incidental fees). The scholarship must be offered by the University of Toronto or external award must be paid to the student by the University of Toronto. External awards paid directly to students are not eligible for tuition fee deferral. If the University scholarship or outside award value does not exceed the Minimum Payment to Register amount on the SWS/ROSI invoice, you may deduct the scholarship or award amount from the Minimum Payment to Register amount on the SWS/ROSI invoice and pay the difference or remaining amount by the deadline to register. The recording of the payment in your student account will change your status on SWS/ROSI from”INVIT”(invited) to “REG”(registered). You need to confirm that the status has changed on SWS/ROSI and report any problems to your registration office. To register without payment on the basis of an Undergraduate scholarship/award before the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, mail or bring a copy of your award letter, a printout of your SWS/ROSI invoice and a completed Request to Register without Payment form to:

- Your College Registrar (TST students)

Note: Scholarships are posted to your account after you have registered. If you register without paying the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice, on the basis of an Undergraduate scholarship/award, pay your fees by the following due dates: 1. After you receive your funds, you must pay at least the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice. 2. If your scholarship/award is cancelled, you are still responsible for paying your fees, and must begin doing so as soon as you receive notification of the refusal. 3. You may register by the Minimum Payment to Register deadline without paying the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice if: a) the following conditions are met: · You must receive funding from Departmental Operating or Restricted Funds or Principal Investigator Research Funding and that the amount of funding exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register amount on the SWS/ROSI invoice (65% of your summer tuition charges). · You are a full-time degree student in a graduate program and all necessary admissions conditions have been met. · All outstanding financial obligations from previous sessions have been paid. · You are responsible for paying the balance of your account even if you do not receive funding from Departmental Operating or Restricted Funds or Principal Investigator Research Funding. b) the completed Request to Register without Payment form and supporting documents are submitted to the Supervisor, Student Accounts before your division’s Minimum Payment to Register deadline, otherwise the tuition fee deferral will not be processed.
If you register without payment, pay your fees by the following due dates: 1. After you receive your funding, you must pay at least the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your invoice. 2. If you do not receive the Department Operating or Restricted Funds or Principal Investigator Research funding, you are still responsible for paying your fees and must begin doing so as soon as you receive notification of refusal to fund. 3. Residence payments cannot be deferred (delayed). Your residence occupancy agreement lists the payment due dates. 4. Full payment of summer session fees is due by August 31st. Otherwise monthly service charges at a rate of 1.5% compounded (19.56% per annum) will be applied against the outstanding student account balance beginning as of September 15th and as of the 15th of every month thereafter until the account is paid in full. 5. Graduate Student Major Award, Research Stipend or Teaching Assistantship
If you have unpaid fees from a previous session, you may NOT defer current session fees.
You may register by the Minimum Payment to Register deadline without paying the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice if: a) the following conditions are met: · You will receive a funding package which can include major awards, research stipends or teaching assistantship; and that the amount of this funding exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register amount on the SWS/ROSI invoice (65% of your summer tuition charges). · You are a full-time degree student in a graduate program and all necessary admission conditions have been met. · All outstanding financial obligations from previous sessions have been paid. · You are responsible for paying the balance of your account even if you do not receive the award, research stipend or teaching assistantship.
b) A completed Request to Register without Payment form must be submitted to your graduate unit before the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, otherwise the fee deferral will not be processed. After the deadline, submit the form to SGS Student Services to complete your registration. You may be charged a late registration fee. Note: If the University scholarship or funding from major award, research stipend or teaching assistantship does not exceed the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice for your program, you may deduct the amount of the scholarship or major award, research stipend or teaching assistantship, from the required minimum payment for registration and pay the remaining amount of the Minimum Payment to Register by the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, in order to complete your registration. If you register without payment, pay your fees by the following due dates: 1. After you receive your funding package funds, you must pay at least the minimum payment to register amount on your invoice. 2. When planning fee payments, students receiving awards should take into account that second and third award installments are credited directly to outstanding fees. 3. Residence payments cannot be deferred (delayed). Your residence occupancy agreement lists the payment due dates. 4. Full payment of summer session fees is due by August 31st. Otherwise monthly service charges at a rate of 1.5% compounded (19.56% per annum) will be applied against the outstanding student account balance beginning as of September 15th and as of the 15th of every month thereafter until the account is paid in full. 5. Tuition Waivers for Staff and Dependants of Staff
A tuition waiver of academic fees is available for University of Toronto administrative staff members, dependants of administrative staff and dependants of faculty members & librarians who previously had a waiver and chose to continue with the waiver, or who are part-time students. For terms of reference, eligibility and provisions, see the collective agreement or policy document for your employment group.
If you are eligible for a University of Toronto tuition waiver and plan to register at the University of Toronto for the summer session, follow these steps to complete your registration by the Minimum Payment to Register deadline: 1. Pay the incidental fees, ancillary fees, and the Student System Access Fee for the current session and any unpaid fees from past sessions, at your bank by the Minimum Payment to Register deadline. Plan sufficient time for your bank to transfer the funds to the University’s bank account by the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, otherwise you may have to show proof of payment in person at the Registrar’s Office or SGS Student Services Office to complete your registration and you may be charged a late registration fee. The transfer of funds from major Canadian financial institutions normally takes three to five business days, however the transfer from Canadian credit unions and financial institutions from outside Canada can take much longer. 2. The recording of the payment in your student account will change your status from “INVIT”(invited to register) to “REG”(registered). You need to confirm that the status has changed on SWS/ROSI and report any problems to your undergraduate registration office or graduate unit. 3. Take the Tuition Waiver Request Form and a copy of your SWS/ROSI invoice to your Human Resources Office for authorization. 4. Submit your Staff/Dependant Tuition Waiver Request form, approved by Human Resources, to Student Accounts by mail or in person. The waiver credit will be recorded on the SWS/ROSI invoice later in the session, after most of the course changes have taken place. 5. Keep a copy of the SWS/ROSI invoice and the tuition waiver form for your records. The copy submitted to Student Accounts will remain with the office. Scholarship Programs for Dependants of Staff, Faculty Members, Librarians, Professional/Managers and Research Associates
Applications are forwarded to Admissions and Awards. Admissions and Awards will determine the applicant’s eligibility, and then write and advise the student of the value and terms of the scholarship, payment procedure and the renewal requirements. To ensure prompt payment of the scholarship, please submit the application before the end of the first study term of the academic year for which you are applying. This scholarship will be credited to the student’s account later in the session, after most of the course changes have taken place. The scholarship is taxable income and T4A’s will be issued. If the tuition scholarship does not exceed the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your SWS/ROSI invoice for your program, you should deduct the amount of the scholarship or outside award from the required minimum payment for registration and pay the remaining amount by the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, in order to complete your registration. The recording of the payment in your student account will change your status on SWS/ROSI from “INVIT”(invited to register) to “REG”(registered). Senior Citizens
Students registered in University of Toronto Undergraduate Arts and Science programs who are 65 years of age or older are eligible for an exemption of compulsory non-academic incidental fees. Contact your Registrar’s Office to arrange for the exemption of incidental fees before following the steps below to complete your registration. In addition, bursary funds for senior citizens may be available upon request. Contact your Registrar’s Office for bursary information. If you are a senior citizen who plans to register for the summer session, follow these steps to complete your registration by the Minimum Payment to Register Deadline: 1. If you plan to register in an Undergraduate Arts and Science program, request an exemption of compulsory non-academic incidental fees in person at your Registrar’s Office. You must pay the outstanding account balance by September 15th to avoid monthly service charges at a rate of 1.5% compounded (19.56% per annum) which will be applied against the outstanding account balance beginning as of September 15th and as of the 15th of every month thereafter until the account is paid in full. 3. If you do not make full payment of summer session fees by August 31st, you will NOT be eligible to register for the fall/winter session. Note for U of T Scarborough students: Your deadline for the full payment of summer session fees is August 26th. If payment is made at the bank after the Minimum Payment to Register deadline, you must show proof of payment in person at the Registrar's Office, or courses will be cancelled and you may be charged a late registration fee.
