Undergraduate Scholarship or Award Payments

Scholarship and award payments that will be paid out on your ACORN invoice can come from two sources:

  • Your faculty, college, or campus awards office has notified you of University of Toronto award funding.
  • External scholarship/award/bursary cheque and scholarship award letter that includes your name, student number, program of study and purpose of the funding is mailed/couriered to:

Undergraduate award payments are normally paid out on your ACORN invoice after the end of the registration period (e.g. mid-late September, mid-late January).

The awards office will decide to apply the award payment to outstanding fees, automatically refund the award payment or apply a portion to outstanding fees and automatically refund the remaining funding. Award pay out instructions will be displayed on your ACORN invoice.  The Student Accounts Office will handle award refund cheques and monitor award refund direct deposits.

  • You are eligible for a tuition fee deferral on the basis of Undergraduate Scholarships or Awards (register without payment) if all of the following conditions apply:

    • you have paid for prior session fees,
    • you have documented scholarship/award/bursary funding for the current session of an amount that exceeds the minimum required payment (Fall term tuition fee total for Fall-Winter session or 50% of Summer tuition fee total for Summer session)
    • The scholarship/award must be offered by the University of Toronto or external award must be paid to the student by the University of Toronto. External awards paid directly to students are not eligible for tuition fee deferral.
    • you apply for a tuition fee deferral prior to your division’s Fall-Winter Pay or Defer to Register deadline or Summer session Pay or Defer to Register deadline.

    Email your form, award letter, a copy of your ACORN invoice to:

    • your College Registrar (undergraduate students)
    • your College Registrar (TST students)
    • Enrolment Services (will also process this form), deliver form to 172 St. George Street or email form to  awards.uoft@utoronto.ca.
    • Student Accounts Office (will also process this form), email to info.studentaccount@utoronto.ca or fax to 416-978-2610.
    • If the fee deferral request is successful, ACORN will change your registration status from “Invited to Register” to “Registered”.

    If the University scholarships or awards, does not exceed the Minimum Payment to Register amount on your ACORN invoice for your program, you may deduct the amount of the scholarships or awards, from the required Minimum Payment to Register amount and pay the remaining amount by the Pay or Defer to Register deadline, in order to complete your registration.

  • Fall – Winter Fee Payment Schedule

    You are responsible for paying for the portion of Fall-Winter fees that will not be paid by your scholarship and award funding by the payment deadline for the current session.

    Summer Session Payment Schedule

    You are responsible for paying for the portion of Summer fees that will not be paid by your scholarship and award funding by the payment deadline for the current session.

    August 31, 2021 Final deadline for full payment of Summer session Tuition & Non-Tuition fees to avoid the recording of an ACORN financial hold on September 1, 2021, and ineligibility to register for future session(s). * Some programs may require an earlier deadline to pay Summer session fees to register for Fall-Winter session.
    September 15, 2021 First monthly service charge billing date for unpaid Summer Tuition & Non-Tuition fee amounts
  • Fall-Winter Session Payment Schedule

    You registered for Fall-Winter session by paying the Minimum Required Payment amount displayed on your ACORN invoice.

    Check your ACORN invoice before the end of September, January, and April, to determine if you need to make a fee payment.

    April 30, 2021 Final deadline for full payment of Fall-Winter session Tuition & Non-Tuition fees to avoid the recording of an ACORN financial hold on May 1, 2021, and ineligibility to register for future session(s).

    Summer Session Payment Schedule

    You registered for Summer session by paying the Minimum Required Payment amount displayed on your ACORN invoice.

    Check your ACORN invoice before the end of May, and August, to determine if you need to make a fee payment.

Award Cancellation

If your award eligibility changes, your faculty, college, campus or graduate unit may request a partial or full award cancellation.  The award cancellation transaction will be displayed on your ACORN invoice as an award cancellation fee transaction that is owed to the University immediately.
