University Graduate Funding Package or Scholarship/Award Payments

Your graduate unit and/or SGS Graduate Awards Office has notified you of award funding that will be paid out on your ACORN invoice.

Graduate award payments may be paid out at the beginning of each term or session, or on a monthly or other basis.

If you have a question about award eligibility and when the award will be recorded on your ACORN invoice, contact your graduate unit and/or SGS Graduate Awards Office 

Your graduate unit or SGS Student Graduate Awards Office will decide to apply the award payment to outstanding fees, automatically refund the award payment or apply a portion to outstanding fees and automatically refund the remaining funding. Award pay out instructions will be displayed on your ACORN invoice.

The Student Accounts Office will handle award refund cheques and monitor award refund direct deposits.

  • You are eligible for a tuition fee deferral on the basis of a University Graduate Funding Package which could include Major Award, Research Stipend, or Teaching Stipend funding (register without payment) if all of the conditions are satisfied:

    1. you have paid for prior session fees
    2. have a University graduate funding package for the current session, and apply for a tuition fee deferral prior to your division’s Fall-Winter session Pay or Defer to Register deadline or Summer session Pay or Defer to Register deadline.

    Request online deferral by logging into ACORN.

    • Click on the Student Loan/Fin. Aid button on the ‘Financial Accounts’ section on the ACORN. You will know immediately if your tuition fee deferral application is successful or not and the application will be noted in your activity log.
    • If your tuition fee deferral request is successful, ACORN will change your registration status from “Invited to Register” to “Registered”.  Report registration status issues to SGS Student Services.

    You can request a fee deferral prior to the Fall-Winter session Pay or Defer to Register deadline or Summer session Pay or Defer to Register deadline, if you are not receiving loans or a university funding package, but have proof of university funding (TA, RA, major award, etc.) which exceeds the Minimum Payment to Register (unpaid fees from prior sessions and Fall term program/incidental/ancillary fees), by submitting the Register Without Payment (Fee Deferral) form to:

    • your graduate unit before the Pay or Defer to Register deadline
    • SGS Student Services after the Pay or Defer to Register deadline (late registration fees will be assessed).
  • You are responsible for paying for tuition & non-tuition fees not covered by scholarship/award funding that is recorded in your ACORN account to cover unpaid fees on your invoice. Scholarships and awards are normally applied directly to unpaid fees on your invoice.

    Fall-Winter Session Payment Schedule

    You are responsible for paying for the portion of Fall-Winter fees that will not be paid by your scholarship and award funding by the payment deadline for the current session.

    April 30, 2024 Deadline for full payment of Fall-Winter Session Tuition & Non-Tuition fee amounts

    Summer award installments that are paid through ACORN normally will be directly applied to your fees to reduce the unpaid Fall-Winter session fee amount which is subject to service charge fee billing starting on May 15, 2024.

    You are responsible for paying for the portion of Summer fees that will not be paid by your scholarship and award funding by the payment deadline for the current session.

    You registered for Summer session by paying the Minimum Required Payment amount displayed on your ACORN invoice.

    Check your ACORN invoice before the end of May, and August, to determine if you need to make a fee payment.

Award Cancellation

If your award eligibility changes, your faculty, college, campus or graduate unit may request a partial or full award cancellation.

The award cancellation transaction will be displayed on your ACORN invoice as a fee transaction that is owed to the University immediately.
